Heavy Congress

After selling out at RISING 2021, Heavy Congress is back for its long-awaited debut—and this time it’s even bigger. 10 crews—made up of DJs, MCs and live performing artists—each wield colossal custom speaker stacks, bombarding the audience with bass, in a bid for the crowd’s seal of approval.

Heavy Congress is an evening steeped in Soundsystem lore and culture—a movement that spread from its Jamaican, Colombian and Afro-Caribbean roots to sprout subcultures across the globe, from England to Australia. If you need a break from the bass there’s snacks, and a film featuring interviews with each of the Melbourne crews performing on the day. Before you leave, don’t forget to pick up some merch to represent your favourite sound system once you’re on the outside.

Whether its reggae and protest music, classic dub, electro and techno, or champeta Africana pumping from the intricately designed speaker stacks, one thing’s for certain: bass is coming and it’s gonna be big.
