SPECIAL EVENTS
Bang Stop — Wed 1 June
Jim White and long-term collaborator and guitarist Emmett Kelly (aka The Double) are joined by brand-new collaborator Jo Lloyd, to create a physically and musically intense catharsis to open RISING.
The Hole — Thu 9—Sun 12 June
Let’s call a spade a spade. The Hole is a hole. Pick up a shovel and dig. Then fill it back in. Job done.
Make It Up Club — Tue 7 June
Featuring a lineup of live experimentalists (just announced). Leave your expectation at the door for a night of avant-garde improvised music.
PIANO TRANSPLANTS
Rarely presented together, Annea Lockwood’s Piano Transplants series was first performed in in the late '60s, early '70s. The seminal sound works expand the art of composition’s edges to using chaotic natural forces.
PIANO BURNING — FRI 10 JUNE, FROM 5PM
A derelict piano goes up in flames for its final performance. First performed in 1968 in London, pianists were invited to “Play whatever pleases you for as long as you can.”
PIANO GARDEN — WED 1—SUN 12 JUNE
Vines and creepers engulf a piano gone to seed. First performed in 1969, hear the Garden's song on your way to The Wilds.
PIANO DROWNING — SAT 11 JUNE, 1—4.15PM
A piano slowly submerged sings its final song. Drowning was first performed in 1972 in Amarillo, Texas. At RISING, see—and hear—it sink in Williamstown Botanic Gardens.
WORLD RHYTHMS — THU 9 JUNE, 8PM
Annea Lockwood's legendary work performed for the first time in three decades. An epic multichannel concert accompanied by Vanessa Tomlinson.

A chance for young art fans to meet acclaimed artist Patricia Piccinini and create their own artworks.
Lynette Wallworth In Conversation with Katrina Sedgwick — SUN 5 JUNE
One of Australia's most innovative and compelling filmmakers goes deep on her career, evolving practice and new RISING work, HOW TO LIVE (After You Die) after the Sunday session.
In Conversation with Multitud's Tamara Cubas — SAT 11 JUNE
Join choreographer Tamara Cubas for a free, In Conversation event following the opening night of Multitud, where she discusses the making of the work and her practice.
JOIN IN AS PART OF MULTITUD
Join a cross-continental collective, 9 years in the making. Along with 70 fellow local participants you’ll create the next iteration of this internationally acclaimed, movement-based performance work.
Single Channel Video — THU 9—SUN 12 JUNE
With echoes of Antiques Roadshow and internet unboxing videos, Single Channel Video sees Geelong’s pioneering Back to Back Theatre conjure an op-shop of the soul filmed live onstage.
Anything & Everything — FRI 3—SUN 12 JUNE
Set in a TV studio, Anything & Everything is a live performance that glimpses into the intimate online and IRL spaces where young people navigate technology, identity, ability, connection and consent.
Hijra'h — THU 9—SUN 12 JUNE
In HIJRA’H, renowned Indonesian dancer and choreographer, Rianto explores gender approaches in dance forms dating back to pre-Islam animism, where transgender spiritual figures were greatly valued.
RETURN TO COUNTRY : REPATRIATION AND RESILIENCE IN CONVERSATION—MON 31 MAY
Hear from The Return’s writer John Harvey and director Jason Tamiru, along with Senior curator Kimberley Moulton. They’ll consider the play’s themes, alongside Moulton’s insights into alternative models of collection and display.
