In her healing, heaving live show, Kelly Lee Owens invites us deep into her psyche. Making her live Victorian debut and in a RISING exclusive, Owens consumes Max Watt's with her sensitive, skillful techno. Her genre-shifting approach fuses the myths of Welsh lore and souvenirs from the legends she's collaborated with—among them John Cale, Jon Hopkins, Daniel Avery and St Vincent.
A virtuosic songwriter and producer, Owens' 2020 release Inner Song reveled in patterns and repetitions, the loops of her synthesiser performing like repeated reminders or meditative prayers urging us on, farther ahead and deeper onto the dancefloor.
Support on the night comes from Melbourne’s own ambient beatsmiths OK EG—whose 2021 release Intertidal Zone is essential listening—and E Fishpool (Yuin), whose intimate approach to music-making sees them distill samples, dialect and field recordings in efforts to understand—and heal—their diasporic identity.
